TEACH AT THE HERMITAGE

In June 2023, The Hermitage Museum will reopen its Visual Arts School (VAS), following a major 10 month-long renovation. With an increased capacity and expanded course offerings, this reimagined space will host dynamic educational opportunities for the Hampton Roads community.

The renovated facility will be fully equipped with a digital art lab (3D printers, iMac desktops), ceramics studio (glazing lab, 10 pottery wheels, electric and gas kilns), painting, drawing, and mixed media studios, and meeting spaces.

The Hermitage accepts, on an ongoing basis, proposals for new classes and workshops in the following areas:

  • Photography (digital)
  • Digital Arts (3D Modeling and Printing, Adobe Suite, etc.)
  • Early Childhood Art (ages 14 months- 5 years)
  • Printmaking
  • Mixed Media
  • Crafts

If you have a new and exciting idea for a class or workshop, please submit your resume including previous teaching experience, Class Proposal Form, and digital images of your work that relate to the proposed class to: Carrie Spencer, Curator of Education and Contemporary Art, cspencer@thehermitagemuseum.org

VAS instructors are contracted employees who are paid on an hourly basis and receive free access to VAS studios during the session they are teaching. All teachers receive an annual Individual Hermitage Museum Membership which includes a reduced rate on classes and events, such as exhibition openings and more.

We offer classes in 4 sessions: winter, spring, summer, and fall. Some instructors will teach one class per session while others will teach multiple. Some instructors will teach 1-2 day workshops and others will teach 8-week long classes. We are flexible and willing to meet the needs of our students and instructors to provide the best educational opportunities.
