About Art Camps
During this week, Campers will focus on an array of artistic mediums and create a piece of art in each medium. Lessons include a brief history and examples of famous works in that medium. By the end of the week, campers will have their own mini-portfolio to share with family, friends, and teachers. Each week incorporates a special tour of the museum, guest instructors, artist demonstrations, nature walks, and time in the gardens. No previous art instruction is necessary.
Camp days run from 9 am–4 pm, with lunch and outdoor time (weather permitting) from 12 pm-1 pm. Please note: Camp ends promptly at 4 pm and aftercare is not available.
Camp Fees: $285 members / $315 non-members
Introduction to Painting
June 23-27
This week campers will take a deep dive into all things painting. Gain experience with a variety of paint media including watercolors, acrylic, and oil as we explore different styles of painting. Regarded as one of the oldest art forms, painting is a staple in art education. Students will work with a variety of surfaces, materials, and subject matter as they explore color, technique, and application. This week of camp will provide young artists with a great foundation in fine art!
Exploring Art Styles
June 30-July 3
(no camp July 4th)
In this exciting week of camp, we will explore iconic art movements through different art mediums. Students will learn to capture light and color like the Impressionists, experiment with bold, vibrant techniques inspired by Pop Art legends like Andy Warhol, and dive into the innovative approaches of contemporary artists. They’ll engage in various artistic mediums, from painting and sculpture to mixed media, all while gaining insight into the history and significance of these styles. By the end of the camp, students will have created a portfolio of works that reflect their unique take on each movement, along with a deeper understanding of how these art styles continue to shape the art world today.
Art Journaling
July 7-11
Journaling is a practice that is used by people all over the world for self-expression, reflection, and to record personal experiences. Engage in the practice of visual journaling by developing skills and building opportunities to express your unique ideas and illustrate your thoughts. Campers will explore multimedia techniques and learn to express themselves through both visual art making and responsive writing.
Character Concepts and Designs
July 14-18
Creativity, fantasy, and tactile mixed media exploration are the primary focus of this camp. Inspired by the Hermitage Museum’s special summer exhibition Burden of the Beast, this camp will guide your teen through the process of creating their own unique creature. Participants will be exposed to numerous art media and techniques throughout the week while letting their imaginations flourish to bring their creatures to life.
Exploring Contemporary Art
July 21-25
This week we will take a deep dive into the Hermitage Museum’s special summer exhibition, Burden of the Beast by Walker Babington, as we learn about what inspires him and other contemporary artists. We will explore how artists convey messages through art and use it as social commentary. We will also investigate the ways artists create art using found and recycled objects as we create fantastical creatures from reclaimed materials. This camp will provide young artists with a better understanding of the contemporary art world and a better understanding of art materials such as watercolor, acrylic paint, charcoal and more.
Mixed Media Extravaganza
July 28-Aug 1
In this dynamic summer camp, students will dive into the exciting world of mixed media art, exploring how to combine a variety of materials and techniques to create unique and expressive works of art. From paint and paper to fabric, found objects, and digital elements, campers will learn how to blend different mediums to enhance their creativity and storytelling. Through guided projects and hands-on exploration, students will experiment with layering, texture, and color to bring their ideas to life in new and unexpected ways. By the end of the camp, participants will have created a diverse portfolio showcasing their ability to think outside the box and combine traditional and non-traditional materials to produce one-of-a-kind art pieces.
