Introduction to Blacksmithing

8 week class, Sept 24 – Nov 12
Mondays, 6:00pm-8:00pm

Come prepared to have a lot of fun and leave with hand forged iron work and a greater understanding of blacksmithing.  Students will learn fire safety and blacksmith shop etiquette.  Basic skills in traditional blacksmithing will be explored in this 8 week class.  The students will observe the museum for 19th century blacksmithing techniques and work on projects with those methods.  Students will learn about the propane forge and anvil and its various uses.  Specific techniques include square and round points, twists, bending, tenons and controlled texturing.  Students will use their acquired skills to forge everyday objects like nails, hooks and a candle stick holder.
