About Art Camps
During this week, Campers will focus on an array of artistic mediums and create a piece of art in each medium. Lessons include a brief history and examples of famous works in that medium. By the end of the week, campers will have their own mini-portfolio to share with family, friends, and teachers. Each week incorporates a special tour of the museum, guest instructors, artist demonstrations, nature walks, and time in the gardens. No previous art instruction is necessary.
Camp days run from 9 am–5 pm, with lunch and outdoor time (weather permitting) from 12 pm-1 pm. Please note: Camp ends promptly at 5 pm and aftercare is not available.
Camp Fees: $285 members / $315 non-members
Couture Camp
July 6-10
Welcome to the most innovative summer camp you’ll ever experience, taught by local creatives Jess Goehner (fashion designer and owner of Directive) and Sherród Faulks (ceramic designer and owner of DEEP BLACK). Couture Camp combines ceramics and fashion design in totally new ways. We’ll begin the week with an introduction to basic concepts such as sketching, couture concepts, and idea generation. Then you’ll learn fundamental techniques in both clay and fibers, key to expressing your unique style. You’ll work to make your very own avant-garde accessories from conception to creation to assembly, which you’ll pair with a stunning one-of-a-kind garment of your own design. Each day will include enthusiastic group discussion, personalized feedback and focused work time in the studio. The week culminates in a photoshoot for documentation followed by a fabulous fashion show in which you’ll strut your stuff for your campmates and parents. No previous experience with clay or sewing is required and we encourage you to bring a favorite garment to modify. If you’re interested in fashion, thrive in creative fast-paced but supportive, inclusive, and diverse classes, and enjoy making exciting new things, this camp is for you.
