MEMORIAL GIFTS
Giving a memorial gift to the Hermitage is a meaningful way to honor a friend, colleague, or loved one. These donations preserve the memory of the individual’s life and help to sustain the museum for future generations.
Gifts to specific areas of interest will be placed in a restricted fund for the maintenance and improvement of the selected program.

PLANNED GIFTS
The Hermitage’s Sloane Society recognizes the commitment of those individuals who include the Hermitage in their financial or estate planning, and who inform the museum of their generous arrangement. These donors carry forward the legacy of support established by the Sloane family, the Hermitage Museum’s founders.
Ways to give:
- Designate a share of the remaining balance of a retirement account.
- Include the HMG in a revocable, or living, trust.
- Make a bequest.
- Establish a charitable gift annuity, or a qualified charitable donation, to the HMG.
Planned gifts may be made to support a specific department, such as collections or education. Or may be unrestricted for general operations.

GIFTS OF STOCK
Gifts of publicly traded securities that have appreciated in value allow you to claim a charitable deduction for the full market value of the securities the date is made. You pay no capital gains tax on the appreciation, and the Hermitage receives the full value of the gift.
To make a gift of securities:
- Instruct your broker to confirm the Hermitage’s banking information by calling Brie Sease at 757-901-4082
- Inform the museum the gift has been initiated so that we may track your gift and thank you appropriately.
QUALIFIED CHARITABLE DONATIONS, OR ANNUAL CHARITY DISTRIBUTIONS
Fund your gift to the Hermitage by using your IRA assets. If you are 70 ½ and older, you may donate up to $100,000 total to one or more charities directly from a taxable IRA instead of taking the required minimum distribution annually.
Processes for gift designations vary by financial institutions; discuss options with a tax professional or wealth advisor.
MATCHING GIFTS
Many companies choose to match employee donations to encourage charitable giving and maximize the impact of your gift. If your organization offers this benefit, you may be able to double or even triple the amount of your contribution! Please ask your company’s HR department about matching gifts.
