As news has continued to develop regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), and in response to the state of emergency in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Hermitage has made the difficult decision to cancel Stories on Stage: The Clothes That Made Me scheduled for Friday, March 20th, 2020. Do you have a piece of clothing that changed you? Saved you? Ruined you?

In support of our exhibition, Style & Flair: Selections from the Wardrobe of Florence K. Sloane, we’ve asked some of Hampton Roads’ biggest names to tell a true story about the article of clothing that changed their lives (for good or bad). Join us for an evening of original storytelling as the Hermitage presents, Stories on Stage: The Clothes That Made Me. Featuring stories from:

Tim Seibles (American poet, professor, and the former Poet Laureate of Virginia)
Hannah Sobol (Story Maker/Producer)
Dan Mathews (Senior VP, PETA)
April Uhrin (Arts for Learning)
Brad McMurran (Artistic Director, Push Comedy Theater)

Philip Odango (Award-winning cosplayer, Singer Sewing Ambassador)

Tickets include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages available for purchase. Members with their membership card in hand will receive $1 discount on each alcoholic beverage. Doors open at 5:45pm.

Join us outside along the banks of the Lafayette River as some of the area’s leading regional vendors display the very best in vintage clothing, records, books, and more! Enjoy activities for kids and adults, food, drinks, and free entry into the Hermitage’s newest exhibition, Style & Flair. STYLE & FLAIR OPENING PARTY

Be one of the first to view the Hermitage Museum’s newest exhibition, Style & Flair: Selections from the Wardrobe of Florence K. Sloane. Don’t miss this one-of-a kind chance to see a range of vintage clothing from the early 1900s to 1930s. From simple, pre-war daywear to lavish and vibrant evening attire, these items will illustrate the evolution of fashion over the decades and shed light on the personal style choices of a fearless, fashion-forward woman of Norfolk. The Opening will be a grand night of art and entertainment featuring live jazz from the Russell Scarborough Quartet, dancing, complimentary heavy hors d’oeuvres from Catering Concepts, beverages available for purchase including a signature cocktail, cigars on the patio featuring Primo Cigars & Coffee, complimentary valet services provided by Express Valet, and a red carpet photo opportunity. The evening begins early with an exclusive Member Preview Hour from 6 -7 pm hosted by clothing and textile expert, Colleen Callahan. Full festivities begin at 7pm with an introduction by Curator of Collections Lindsay Neal.

Join us for a spirited roundtable discussion featuring Evie Terrono, Ph.D. (Professor of Art History Randolph-Macon College), Peggy Haile-McPhillips (City of Norfolk Historian), and Lindsay Neal (Hermitage Curator of Collections), as they discuss the life and times of Hermitage founder, Florence K. Sloane. Tickets include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages available for purchase. Members with their membership card in hand will receive $1 discount on each alcoholic beverage. Doors open at 5:45pm.
