From early Coptic tapestries to 20th century Spanish lace, textiles manage to make up a large portion of the Sloane Collection. Mrs. Sloane’s affinity for these goods tied in nicely to her husband’s ownership of textile mills along the Elizabeth River during the first half of the 20th century. With many of her own personal dresses and shoes among the collection, the textiles on site remain one of the most internationally diverse mediums found at the Hermitage.
